I'm the go-to person for all things cute and funny. My main tools are Photoshop and TVPaint (a digital animation software for traditional frame-by-frame animators). I'm also pretty handy with After Effects, especially when it comes to character animation. Directing also comes quite naturally to me. Basically I'm the Swiss army knife of 2D animation.
I studied visual design at the Tampere University of Applied Sciences and graduated in 2010.
During my third year of studies I got a job at Anima Boutique. I worked there for almost 6 years doing pretty much what I do now: drawing characters, animation, and directing a number of projects.
I even did illustrations for a children's book ("Joulupukki ja Korvatunturin väki") with my colleague Anna Bernal, which was almost a dream come true - "almost", since I wasn't responsible for writing the story.
The book was part of a much bigger project: redesigning Santa Claus! It was a huge and complicated task since everyone has their own ideas of what Santa should look like.
I've designed characters for the most successful Veikkaus e-lottery ticket, Nokkapokka.
I worked as a freelancer quite successfully for 1½ years (but forgot to take time off).
The best thing about working at Brink
Nobody complaining about my very very late mornings.
My favorite project
I'd say Äkäpussit because we really had a blast planning the game with guys from Veikkaus and Moido. The team has been great at giving feedback and sharing their ideas but also trusting me and giving me a lot of creative freedom. My second favorite project is probably redesigning the characters of Rosa & Rudolf for the Finnish ski resort Ruka. I was totally in my comfort zone drawing cute animal characters! I guess in both cases I really enjoyed the assigment but also had great chemistry with the client. I think that's key to a successful project.
In five years
I want to tell my own stories in some form, whether it's a comic book, children's book, short film or even an animated series! And one day I want to win an Oscar, get invited to the annual Independence Day Ball thrown by the President of Finland, and take over the world with an army of rabbits. Totally doable in 5 years, right?
